It's Too Quiet

I got used to the sound of their voices and laughter. It's too quiet here now.

I had a fantastic time with Bird & Rae. From homemade breakfasts to exploring the city to browsing bookstores to lazing about the apartment drinking wine- everything was great. Even when I almost lost my shit from a combo of low blood sugar and feeling lost, we still had a good time. Because we are those kinds of friends. Because we love each other not in spite of but because these neuroses and quirks that make us who we are. And apparently it is endearing when I wear my crankypants. Thank goodness because I seem to be wearing them quite frequently.

I love hanging out with Birdy & Rae Rae because we give each other permission to just be. Whether it is irreverent, politically incorrect, crass or crazy- it's all ok. Bird kept joking that she was colonizing Rae by making her sit in the back seat (Rae is from South Africa) while Rae quipped (in response to my question: "What word do I say a lot?") "Oh you mean P?" (the name of Friday night date guy). Oh no you didn't! Oh yes. She did. Throughout the weekend we were forced by Rae to give her "props" - meaning we would use our fist to pound twice on our chest, over our hearts, and then lift two fingers in the air in a peace sign. When she spotted parking, "Where are my props?" When she found the Mexican market, "Give me props!" It drove Bird to make a new way of giving props- the double chest pounding and the flip off. Guess that is one more reason we can call her Bird.

Now what? It feels a bit lonesome without their energy to keep me afloat. At least I get to see them again in a couple weeks when I head home for a short visit. Counting the days until then. . .

Oh and they finally met the Friday night date guy last night (P) and while they found him to be funny and nice their assessment is he is better friend material than boyfriend material. I thought they might say that. I've been thinking that myself. I thought it was too easy anyhow. I mean, who moves to a brand new city and meets a guy within two weeks? Oh well.

The giving props part is hilarious. I'm sitting here pounding my chest to imitate it. And laughing out loud.

Glad you had a good weekend, Ms. Sizzle.

Yay, friends!! And how nice to get their affirmation that the "just friends" thing seems spot-on. As much as we all make our own decisions, it's nice sometimes when people we adore agree with us. :-)

If it weren't for the girlfriends, we'd never survive the boyfriends...

Sometimes the sign of a good friend is one that is telling you to let that particular fish go back into the sea. But, I still think you need to go with your gut, if it feels right:) Sounds like you had a great time this weekend. I wish more of my older friends lived closer for weekend visits.

I'm so glad you had some quality girl time and that they got to meet P! Your friend's opinions mean the world in a relationship. Although it shouldn't decide the fate of the relationship, you should take it into consideration. Yay! Friends and Wine! I love it.

That sounds like a great weekend and they sound like great friends. And that's what really makes life worthwhile, isn't it?
