First Words

I've been joking to Doke and Double B that I am going to have to teach my nephew how to project his voice because his parents are such low talkers. You've seen the Seinfeld episode. You know what I am talking about. At least they aren't close talkers. I think that is technically worse. Particularly if they have gingivitis or halitosis. How unfortunate. Either way- could you please speak up? I can't hear what the hell you are saying. I am sure it is very important.

The other night over dinner, we got to talking about our first words. Double B's first word was "chocolate." (I love that.) Mine was, coincidentally, "mine." While Doke's was "no." She had to say "no!" to me saying "mine!" all the damn time. Ahh, sisters.

What was your first word?

Mine was the name of our dog, "Elsa." It sounded more like "Delta." So cute you want to barf, I know. But I still can't figure out why a person would name a dog "Elsa."

Oh dear, I'm a ... ummm ... a low, low talker. People are always saying to me, "Pardon? I'm sorry ...?"

I blame it a too many loud concerts when I was younger and sillier. On the other hand, I hear everything I say quite clearly. btw ... it's also about timber, modulation blah blah ... meaning, while I'm not James Earl Jones, I do have a voice that is more in the lower registers. Most people don't hear these frequencies, I believe, and I think this explains idiot cars with their BOOM BOOM BOOM bass going.

And if I may speak from the other side of the coin, as annoying as low talkers are, loud talkers are even more so. "What's the problem pal? I'm in the same room - I'm not in freakin' Iowa!"

Also, loud, annoying laughers ... like my neighbour who sounds like a used car salesmen in a brothel. I may have to do something about that guy, though I don't know what.

let's just hope the baby isn't "breath taking" like the Seinfeld episode.

I have no clue what my first word was.

Mom tends to think it was "Batman"... certainly among the first if not The First word because my brother used to go around singing the theme song to the tv show all the time.

I'm told that my first "word" was actually a sentence. I apparently started speaking in full sentences. And haven't stopped talking since...

How depressing is it when you own mother says, "I don't remember?"

...but Bill, I AM in Iowa... sorry, just had to say that.

My Hubs is hard of hearing, too, after 4 years in the navy in the boiler-room of a ship and he has a terrible time with people who won't speak up or who mumble. He has to ask me "what did they say"? or he tries to fake it. When he tries to fake it with me, I usually catch him out... what was that hun? You love me? Yeaaah... I love you too, but what I said was, do you want something from the kitchen? LOL!

My first word? I have no clue, but I'm sure it was precious. You know, just 'cause I am... :)

My mother swears that my first words were "Hi there, Bre!" when I rolled my walker to the mirror (apparently they said that to me every time I saw a mirror). I choose to believe her, since it clearly illustrates how brilliant I was from the get go.

sue: you mean, you're in heaven? (sorry - movie reference)

btw ... I do what your hub does too. (I think my ears are somewhat shot.) I do a fair amount of smiling and nodding when I have no idea what someone has said.

My first word is a bit of a question. My mom says it was "tato" because I've always liked potatoes. Dad says it was "bye." My oldest sister says it was "ass" and my middle sister says it was "leen" (variation of her name). I tend to think it was ass. :)

Bill...heaven...yeah...that's it. No need to explain the movie reference here. It's a law in this state to have every line of the movie memorized. Twice.

Oh, and for your enjoyment Siz, my animal-loving youngest daughter's first word was "Kitty Cat" (not that clearly, of course, more like "Ki-ka") because she had a stuffed kitty she loved more than me and her dad put together. :)

I would like to say the youngest ones' first word was "vroom vroom", but I'd be tellin' a lie.
