Seattle Speaks To Me

The first time I laid eyes on Seattle, it was about seven years ago, to visit my friend Jordahl and his fiance Devin. At first glimpse, from the airplane window, the green of the Washington land looked so inviting. Driving along the freeway on the way to Whidbey Island, I was struck by the beauty- how the urban sprawl nestled into the evergreens. . .the Sound. . .the sky on the brink of breaking open with its predictable rain. . .something about Seattle spoke to me. And still, it whispers. . .

My assimilation to Seattle was fairly effortless. I found my way around downtown with ease and for the first time since moving to Santa Cruz, I felt I had found a city I could possibly call home. Now, with Hillz here, my sis and her husband preparing to return to set roots here and my mom dreaming of her eventual move here (which would mean, being a grandma would quickly follow), it seems the gentle push of the universe might be gaining force. Who knows?
For now, Santa Cruz suits me. We shall see how it all plays out.

Hillz had a cocktail party tonight so I could meet her new friends. They are sweet and funny and somewhere between 7pm and midnight I consumed about 6 glasses of wine. My head feels a bit foggy. Dave, Hillz former housemate and his "girlfriend" Molly are still lingering even at this wee hour. I finally excused myself for fear of hurting my brain. You see, Molly, she is a very attractive, unique girl and when she opens her mouth most of the time I can barely make sense of what comes out of it. And it isn't cuz she is intoxicated- or maybe it is cuz I have only met her in situations where alcohol was involved. . . I can't say for sure but she seems a bit medicated. Plus, she likes ice in her white wine- and we are not talking spritzer. Not that I judge. Ok, I do but it is late and my sense of propriety is off-kilter.

I am off to dream a little dream . . .
