What do you want to be when you grow up?

It's mid-day on a breathtaking Friday afternoon. I should be elated. The weekend is almost here. I've made progress on some work projects. I've got a fun weekend planned. And there is sushi at Mobo in my evening's forecast. What more could a gal ask for other than well, the obvious, which for those of you slow to enlightenment means a good roll in the hay. Don't blush. It had to be said. Love Sabbatical = Sexual Dry Spell. You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have. . .

I'm a bit miffed though. Yet again I am the only director here at work meaning I am in charge. . .again. Funny since I am currently getting paid less than a manager recently hired. (Raised eyebrow & sneer inserted here) Maybe that dream about blowing up and quitting was more telling than I care to admit? It got me to thinking about career possibilities. Back in my 20s I was desperate to make ends meet and took some jobs that were not true to my passions. And somehow I ended up a Non-Profit Executive. People keep asking me when I will be the Executive Director. I'm flattered they think I could be up to that enormous task but frankly, I don't know if that is what I want to be when I grow up.

I remember being asked what I wanted to be when I grew up at my kindergarten graduation. I think my two top choices were: cheerleader and babysitter. Gee little Sizzle, what high aspirations! It's kind of ironic though that I am both of those things at my current job- without it being on my job description.

The possibilities of what I could do are endless: start my own line of clothing for chubbettes, open a swanky 40's-inspired jazz club, write greeting cards, you name it. What would you do if you could do something other than what you do? It helps to dream. It's good for the soul.

Oh and I think Ben Folds Five rocks and this blog is super cool.

I don't want to sell anything, buy anything or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed... or buy anything sold or processed... or process anything sold, bought or processed... or repair anything sold, bought or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that. What I really want to do with my life - what I want to do for a living - is I want to be with your daughter. I'm good at it.
