Say Aaaahhhh

Do you believe that emotions can cause physical reactions in our bodies? I came home from work yesterday feeling a bit blue but not at all sick. Come 7pm the glands in my throat were swollen and I had no appetite. I stared at the TV to numb out but then finally just went to bed to sleep it off. I woke up at 1:44am, 3:12am, 4:18am, 6:03am and 6:54am. I laid there contemplating calling in sick. I have two meetings and a talk to give. I can't honestly imagine opening my mouth and speaking.

For a woman who normally is not at a loss for words, I find myself without words to properly explain the situation I have found myself in. Just know that sometimes emotional situations can occur and result in a physical manifestation. Like when words fail you, a lump appears in your throat and you discover that not talking is the only cure. I'm going back to bed to fitfully wonder if there is a way to remove my integrity from my throat. And to drink some tea because tea cures most things.

Everyone deserves a day off once in a while. And yeah, it's proven that mental reactions can manifest physical responses. Totally.

There is tons of research about how mental health affects physical health. I'm a firm believer that if two people got a cold, the one with the positive vibe would get better faster.

Feel better.

I agree with what others said--I have both made myself sick and made myself feel sort of better before. I'm wondering though, if this isn't our body's way of defending our mind. Take your mental health day, drink some tea, and make tomorrow as positive as you can stand. Feel better!

I believe that, yes.

I woke up at 1:44am, 3:12am, 4:18am, 6:03am and 6:54am.

You totally should have done a 24 Hours Of Sizzle post :)

Hope you feel better soon. Physically and emotionally.

Just when I need a really great joke to cheer you up I can't think of one. BAH!

I hope the blues are passing and taking the symptoms with them.

Big hugs.

What kind of tea? I am a lover of tea. I hope you feel better soon because weaking up every 88 minutes in the middle of the night is no fun.

I hope you're feeling better by now. Waking up so much makes for a very long night! You definitely deserve a day off for that reason alone.

of course emotions can effect the physical body...

...but the reverse can be true as well!

If you are feeling down and crappy and you don't want to - first notice how you are holding your body, how you walk and breathe. Then, remember how you felt when you were on top of the world and how you carried yourself and how you breathed.

If you can recreate that positive physiology in your body, the emotion will be recreated as well... a 'fake it 'til you make it' solution if you will.

I'm with Hotpinksox, a mental health day is in order. On the Emotional and physical side, what is it that they say, laughter being the best medicine! Melissa had it going on with the joke, What do you get when you cross a penis and a potato? (a dictator) Feel better. :)

Yes, I think you can make yourself sick by being stressed and tired. You might need a day off....

Been there, done that so many times...I'm very much a psychosomatic patient.
Tea does help everything (I'm such a green tea addict now, and so glad for it!) but even better is a hot bath with your favorite bubblebath. :)
Take care, you!

Emotions TOTALLY affect your physical boday!! If your body is telling you it needs to stay in and rest, LISTEN TO IT! And yes, tea cures all ills...Either that or tequila... ;)

Hey, I moved to a new blog:

Sometimes, you just need a day. Not a damn thing wrong with that.

Yes and yes and yes. I've been sick since Saturday - first time in quite a while. It coincided with moving day.

Anyway ... it's several days later and while I'm still ill at least it feels like it's improving.

So ... yes and yes and yes.

I hope you took your mental health day and enjoyed the sunshine. Apparently Monday was the most depressing day of the year, the sun was a welcome change! I hope you feel better and get more sleep tonight.

Emotions zap your energy and no energy can make you sick. I am the poster child for this.

Yes, take care, take it slow, feel better.

Oh yes, I believe! I was sick for almost two weeks after a very emotional holiday season. Not even bad, emotional, just intense.

Hope you're feeling better.

No question that I think our bodies react to our emotions. Hmmm...Fridays and Mondays are always good days to take "off." I hope you feel better soon:)

Absolutely. I hope you're feeling better today.

And bullyse wrote what I was thinking. On a side note, I misread bullyse as bullseye (bull's-eye) which seemed fitting.

mental health days are a must.
i also believe that sometimes we totally need to be cut off from others to find our place and voice in the world, this in turn helps us gain perspective to feel stronger.
