No More Hiding

All across the blogosphere there's this delurking thing going on. People are coming out of the woodwork to say- I'm here! I read! I'm a fan! Because, people, delurking is about being nice. Keep that in mind when you delurk on my blog, ok? Remember, I'm fragile this week.

I received an iPod for Christmas (thanks Mom!). I wear it all the time. Even at work. It's gotten to the point where I feel like I have a soundtrack to my life playing in my ears. The last few days it's been stuck on "Gone" (thank you Ben Folds) because that song is appropriate in many ways for my current mood. Listening to my iPod obsessively got me thinking. . . if you could make the soundtrack of your life, what one song would you HAVE to include? Tell me.

(That includes you, lurkers.)

Right now, the song that plays in my ear is Wild Horses by Natasha Bedingfield. The song is about things that I want in my life..

Don't Stop Believin'. Gotta love the Journey.

Well, you know I read your blog already--but I'll delurk anyway. :)
As for a song, I'd have to go with "This is the first day of my life" by Bright Eyes. It just appeals to me lately.

You know I'm here, I read and I'm a huge fan, right? Because it's all true.

Anyway, my song is also a Ben Folds song, "The Luckiest". Although it makes me cry every time I listen to it, so I wouldn't recommend it for your ipod right now. I'm hoping to change it to "Good Morning Son" within the next year or so, which is also another of Ben's tearjerkers. Damn, that guy can write a good song.

God, I adore Ben Folds. You should listen to "Landed" -- and really read the lyrics.

Pyramid Song by Radiohead. I could listen to it over and over and over...

Just one song? Yikes. I'll have to go with "Hot Pants, Part 1" by Mr. James Brown. That's the obvious choice. ;-)

Runners up include "Most of the Time" - Bob Dylan, "Rollin & Tumblin" - Muddy Waters and "Sleepsinging" - The Damnwells. Oh yeah and "Shake that Ass" by The Lovemakers. I'm shakin' it.

probably 'everybody wants to rule the world' by tears for fears... because it reminds of being in high school and having a life that wasn't f-d up yet - and we thought it was hard back then! yea right! :o)

How about "Stand" by R.E.M. I got my new iPod too was shocked to find that all we had in the house was kids music! I could have a soundtrack, but it would have to have a lot of rim shots and variants of that short TV music that gets played when one realizes he/she as has done something remarkably stupid. (Wa wa waaaa)

The song that stands the test of time for me is "Elsewhere" by Sarah McLachlan, on her best album, Fumbling for Ecstasy. The words, the mellowness, her beautiful voice: it all grabs me.

Back in Black by AC/DC. It's my cell phone ring and everyone I know, knows that I love that song. Plus I wear a lot of black but not in a goth way, more like in the working girl way. :)

I got an iPod for christmas and I have been fair obsessed with it ever since. Mine can have video on it, so I have burned about 1/6th of our movie collection (it's a big collection) onto our computer already. It's becoming a sickness actually. Did you know you can even buy little outfits for your iPod? ;)

I'd have to include the song "fallen" by Sarah Mcglaughlin (spelled wrong, sorry) because, hello - that's me, the big screw up.

Hmm...picking just one is tough. I think I'd go with "Everybody got their something" by Nikka Costa. Gotta be something that makes me want to dance.

One of my all-time faves would be Sweet Child O Mine by Guns N Roses.

But lately, I've been feeling A Long December by Counting Crows.

Gee, I'm a fun guy.

One of my all time favorits is To Sheila by the Smashing Pumpkins. Oh, and Dean Martin's On an Evening in Roma.

Como e bella ce la luna brille e strette
Strette como e tutta bella a passeggiare
Sotto il cielo di Roma

When I went through my big "crash" a few years ago, "Strong Enough" by Sheryl Crow was on constant playback in my mind. Also, October Project - everything by them. I can barely listen to any of those anymore without taking me right back to those dark days.

Oh, and YES to Ben Folds... Landed chokes me up every time and "The Luckiest" was my daughter's first dance with her new husband... of course, she's divorced now a year later... *sigh*

Piss Up A Rope by Ween...not because the lyrics have anything remotely to do with me or my life...it's just that once I broke out into a spontaneous dance in front of a house full of people when that song came on...and that memory, and the song, will always make me laugh. Always!

Polyester Bride - The old and GOOD Liz Phair
"You're lucky to even know me...you're lucky to be alive...you're lucky to be drinking here for free 'cause I'm a sucker for your lucky pretty eyes...
And then he said, Do you want to be a Polyester Bride?
Do you want to hang your head and die?
Do you want to find alligator cowboy boots--they just went on sale?
Do you want to flap your wings and fly a-way from here?"

Is it delurking if this is my first visit? Since it's time to not lurk so much, what with all the calls to delurk, I'll comment and say that I stumbled onto your blog doing an image search for my own blog. I've enjoyed what I read and will probably be back. Thanks for some interesting reading.

Oh yeah, the question, probably Hank Williams "I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive" or Molly Hatchet "Flirting With Disaster" or both. Really this is too difficult, picking one song. I'm lucky to narrow it down at all once I start thinking.

Better Things, Spring Street or Cool As I Am by Dar Williams - all three make me smile :)

When I'm feeling really dark though - I pump up Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones. It just works.

The Long Day Is Over...Norah Jones. Best song ever!!

Oh, lucky you! Yes, the iPod is addictive.

I have a different song for every day. I am pretty sure, though, that the soundtrack to my life is the equivalent of a compilation of cheesy 80's pop!

I've been reading recently via bloglines and Hilly. I'm de-lurking! I luuuurrrve Ben Folds, I saw him last year and completely fell in love. If I had to pick a soundtrack for my life, the number one would probably be "Elsewhere" by Sarah McLachlan. Think it's a coincidence that's the name of my blog? It is, actually...must have been subconscious.

Okay, ya caught me lurkin'. So sue me. LOL

I guess my song for the past couple of weeks has been John Mayer's "In Repair." ..."I'm not together, but I'm getting there..." Love me some JM.

I promise not to lurk no mo. :)

Just one is incredibly difficult and as much as I would love it to be Electric Youth by Debbie Gibson... the one that I think would encompass all that I want, all that I have known and all that I strive to be... YOU LEARN by Alanis Morissette... It's one of the few songs I can think of that is not only reflective, but inspiring... does that make sense?

Couldn't live without it

Delurking as requested. Don't remember how I stumbled on your blog, but I'm just down the road a bit from you (Capitol City) and really enjoy reading your ramblings, so I keep coming back!

I'm not sure I can pick only ONE song. That's a tough choice. Ok, here goes. Right now it'd have to be...

Anything But Ordinary by Avril Lavigne

i could never find the words,
so i disguise them in verse
till it comes out dumb and wrong,
the simplest song
if you sing along..

bad astronaut, violet.
great song.
