Wake Up Calls Come In Many Forms
For as much as I have been craving new experiences and new friends, I've been shy about going after them. Venturing out last Saturday with my boss was a step and I had fun. Last night a met a woman who recently relocated here from California who is a friend of a friend for some after-work drinks. I went into the meeting thinking I was doing her a favor. I left with a new friend.
It's funny how preconceived notions can really stop me from seeing potential. I'm always so concerned about rejection that I tend to count myself out before anything has ever happened (defense technique). Whatever my original motivations were to meet up with E, I'm glad I did because we have a lot in common and it instantly felt like we had known one another for a long time. She's the one who did me the favor.

Cheers! New girl-friends can be hard to find.
Or maybe, by venturing out, you did it for yourself.
Yeah for new friends!
Preconceived notions are a dangerous thing. They can prevent us from meeting really cool people. So, when are we meeting for coffee?
I totally relate to this. I have only realized lately how often I bowed out before I even tried, with just the assumption I couldn't have something I wanted.
It's hard to overcome that.
Good for you to recognize it and work on it.
Wow, you've been living in your new place for a much shorter time than I've been living here and you're already beating me on the friend count. Think maybe I should be more social and less of a hermit? Yeah, me too.
Look at you creating a new life for yourself!
Here's to taking new chances.
Yay, a feel-good blog entry. Imagine that. How cool for you. That's called "bonus."
what a nice surprise! my motto is "you can never have too many good friends."
hi, i just wanted to say hello and that i'm glad i found your blog (from all bully, all the time)... i know it wasn't discussed today but your story a few days ago about your cat, dottie, cracked me up... i thought MY cat, max, was the only one that scratched his litterbox for 20 minutes... and did laps around the apartment... sometimes we play hide and seek too which is funny cus i scream when he gets near me, and then he freaks out... AND he successfully chewed-up not 1, not 2 but 3 pairs of my flipflops this summer... who would've thought cats chewed clothing and shoes...
nice to meet you, by the way, i'm jodi... :o)
So glad you bit the bullet, went for it, and had a terrific time! And yes, good GFs are rare gems. :)
I've been looking out for new friends myself after a bit of a fiasco a while back.
Good for you for having the courage to step out and do it.
Always when we least expect it, right? It's hard making new friends as we get older and our walls thicken, so kudos to you:)
Good for you!
Sounds like we have something in common...I do the same thing...count myself out for fear of rejection before anything even happens. It can be sad, lonely and frustrating.
Glad you ventured outside the box :)
