Watch Me Pull A Rabbit Out Of My Hat

I went on a date last night.

(Did anyone gasp at this news?)

It wasn't any big deal or anything. I've been spending time with a certain fella for about two months now. (Go ahead, calculate. And yes, that was pretty soon after I arrived here. I wasn't even looking- I swear to you and the baby Jesus!) So when we first met we decided we'd be friends and see what happens. Well. . . we're still friends but then there is that non-friend energy and chemistry so it confuses the whole thing. We "hang out" and "don't label" which are clearly his terms since I am putting them in quotes. I don't understand this non-labeling thing because it's not like you aren't doing the very thing you aren't labeling. Hello! Labeling doesn't make it any more a fact.

Or does it?

So after all this "hanging out" I decided we needed to go on a date. No Friday night watching a movie at his apartment like it is any ol' day of the week, like we are already a couple or something. I want to be wooed damn it! I want to go OUT. I want to DO something that involves activity and other people being present. And me being me being me, I decided I would role model what dating looks like to me and plan the date.

I put four scraps of paper in a hat, each one with the name of a movie on it. He had to pick one and that one determined which hat he would pick out of for the second part of the date. So he picked Hollywoodland out of hat A which led him to pick Hi Life for dinner out of hat B. There ya have it- our date.

I've been told that men don't respond to role modeling. I can't (or won't) entirely believe this to be true. If me planning a date doesn't inspire said fella to, in turn, take the reins and plan a date for us then, well, we might as well just be friends. A girl likes to be shown she is special and worth the effort, you know?

Excellent post, Ms. Sizzle. Every girl deserves a little wooing.

I like your date in a hat idea though.

You totally deserve to be wood. That reminds me of Jon Lovits saying "I am here to woo you"...LOL.

I hate the loosey goosey no label bullshit thing....ugh, it is confusing.

I am glad that you took the reigns and had a great time and Sizz, you are hot, funny, and totally doable so anyone who doesn't see that is an ass.

Were I not married and into having a girl thing, I'd take you on a date! ;).

Nice! If that boy doesn't take it from here, I'd be shocked. Go you! And also, thanks for a fun idea.

Good for you. Sometimes you've got to take the bull by the horns. :)

I still don't think he will get it... but thats just me and the high esteem I have for the male population. They either get it or they don't.

(Can't wait to hear about the dets!)

If I were there, we'd be "pretend-dating" all over the place - you realize this, right?

that's awesome, hope you had an excellent date :)

good for you - hope things went well!

the labeling thing sucks because what you said is exactly right - if you're already doing the thing, just say what it is already. grrr.

I think my husband and I have to use your method for deciding what to do on a date. We can never choose what we want to do, so half the time we just end up doing nothing, or going to the same restaurant for the millionth time. This could be fun!

Nothing wrong with that. I think it's a pretty cool idea.

So how'd the date go? Fun? Follow up?

I really am happy for you although I now feel unnecessary since I was the one who was supposed to ensure you were participating in the dating scene. What's a boy like me to do with all this extra time?
