And The Winner Is...

I decided the only way I could walk into that interview yesterday was if I was going to be 100% myself. No power suit. No false persona. No pretending that a major gift ask floats my boat. Just me. A kick ass event planner with a panache for working with people.

So I doned my polka dot dress and walked into that room with a smile on my face.

The interview went well. The Board member really liked me. I was incredibly flattered and actually, wasn't even nervous. We chatted for an hour and then I left them to their second interviewee, my competition.

I went straight over to Doke and Double B's. I figured if anything could ground me, Finn would be it. As I sat on their couch talking over the pros and cons, I realized that I needed to stop stalling and take ahold of my new life.

I called the foster care place and accepted the position of Volunteer Coordinator. This is the agency that graciously offered me 4 days to consider knowing full well I had another tempting offer on the table, that upped their salary offer, that impressed me at every turn. They have an excellent reputation and there is room for growth. This position will allow me to ease into my new life without major stress and without a huge learning curve. I went with my gut and now I am an employed Seattle-ite. I start today. Part time this week. Full time starting Monday.

The other job was disappointed but nice enough not to give me a major guilt trip. They are starting their search over because I was THE candidate. You think they could have sped things along more or been a bit more organized if that were the case. I am 95% sure I made the right decision. The 5% doubt is that "go go go" mentality of always having to do more and be better and push myself. I'm not used to being so kind to myself, of thinking about peace and harmony and having a life outside of a stressful job. Seattle has been good to me in that way. I'm actually thinking about how to not beat myself up. How grown up!

I'm off to my first day of work.

Congratulations, Sizz. This new job sounds like a great fit as you settle into your new life in Seattle.

It's been my experience when a place takes forever to get their hiring process in order, it's a reflection on the company's lack of organization overall. No need to deal with that just now.

Hope you're having a great first day!

Balance is good, Sizz! And the way people treat you while interviewing is definitely an indication of how things are run, I think.

Also, kick-ass dress!

I've been following this since the beginning (well about a month before the move)!

I'm happy that you're feeling much more centered now.

I'm SOOOOOOOO Happy For You!!!!

Would you like to borrow my Bee Gee's lunch box to take to work? I've had it since 3rd grade and it would make a big splash on your first week of work!

Congratulations ms Sizz! That is awesome! I knew you could do it, fabulously. You are really putting all the pieces of your life into place, and it sounds like you made the right decision. It's always best to go with your gut.

Plus, I do think the way an interview process goes is incredibly indicative of what it is like to work at a place. The fact that four employees liked you and still they need the permission of that one board member tells you a great deal. And not any of it is good.

Congratulations, Miss Sizzle!!!

From what little I know, which is only what you've blogged, I was hoping you'd take the job with the foster care place, too :)

I think that's rather fabulous, I must say. I'm really glad that you didn't change or alter yourself at all to be their ideal candidate - you stayed true to who you are and had two fabulous offers - you rock!! :)

Finn made you do it, didn't he. Even as a new born I sense the force is strong in him.
