Kick It Into Gear

How can a woman with no employment and a very small pool of friends within a 10 mile radius manage to get so little accomplished? It's easy, I've discovered.

My routine has become quite lax. Wake up when I feel like it. Watch some Dawson's Creek or the BBC's version of What Not to Wear. Drink some tea. Chat on line with friends. Read blogs. Hell, that just took 3 hours. Before I know it, it is after 12 and I am still in my pjs. I've needed to take my recycling out for days. I am low on groceries. I still haven't hemmed my curtains. I really should have cleaned the kitty litter box yesterday. And my mom is arriving on Friday for a long weekend of house hunting. I need to kick my ass in gear.

Yes, you read that right. House hunting. My mom is moving here to Washington state upon her retirement in a mere 4 months. Did I mention that already? Did I mention how incredibly happy this fact makes me? Did I mention I get to chauffeur her around town looking at houses all weekend? I'm hoping we can also see Shakespeare in the Park and maybe catch a matinee of the new M. Night Shyamalan movie. My first guest at my new apartment- fun!

So today I am up at 7 (ok, 7:30) to make sure I am ready for my 10:00 am appointment with a non-profit recruitment service. Then I have a 2:00pm interview with an organization that does work with foster kids. Interviewing. Interviewing. Interviewing. I totally don't have enough outfits fit for all these interviews. Particularly because it is so flippin' hot here. I look wilted by the time I arrive. It is so much easier to sit around in your pjs but that is certainly not going to get me a job.

Congrats on your mom moving up here, but more importantly, that it's good news for you:) It's tough to allow yourself to be lazy, isn't?

That is so fantastic that Mom is coming too. Grandchildren/nieces/nephews make family members do all sorts of crazy things.

Enjoy your fantastic weekend with mom.

I'm still in my PJ's. Getting dressed and leaving the house is soooo overrated.

Sometimes, I wish sitting around in pj's was my job.

Could you do us a favor and tell us what Dawson & the gang are up to? Please?

Sweetie, I've been doing that all summer. This is my last week of total freedom.

We really should be on each other's IM lists!

Great news on my end: I'm finally leaving purgatory. To join the good guys - same company - better pay - was hired today, completely out of the blue. Good things happen to those who wait. Now it's your turn, Amy

That's great that your mom is coming! Revel in the pjs and Dawsons while it lasts ;-)

I would be in heaven if I got to live in the same town as my mom and my sister. And it would probably drive my husband batshit insane, but hey, I guess that's what he'd have to deal with because that would be awesome. And it is why we're thinking about moving back to my hometown. At least he gets along with my dad and they can go crazy at us girls together.

Hope your interview went well!

You realize, of course, that the minute you want to spend TONS of time with your mom is when the new job is going to come through and you'll be working all the time, right? Murphys' law...

Gratz on your mom moving, tho'... I know that's got to be exciting. I, of course, never moved but having Em back with us and the rest of my kids close is such a blessing. We really do have fun together! G'luck on the househunting!

I remember those days. Kinda like some Saturdays now for me. Amazing how much time flipping channels, reading blogs, and lying around can take up. Before I know it, it's 2 PM and I realize I need to get some pants on so that I can go get some lunch.
