When trying to find the inspiration to write a cover letter and resume for your dream job, what music would you listen to?

- I relocated from sunny, beachy California to the Emerald City because I heard that every new resident got a pair of ruby shoes. (Someone lied!) (Okay, I’m gullible.) A non-profit event planner by day and an apartment manager by night, I spend my free time blogging about my neurosis (fine, neuroses because yes they are plentiful), being crafty, pretending I’m the next American Idol, and searching for a decent taco in a town that boasts of teriyaki joints on every corner.

Good question. For me, it's anything I'm in the mood for to procrastinate. For some reason, I loathe writing cover letters and I will do anything to avoid them, though I have been told it is one of my better skills.

Well, for something off the wall, "Kinda Dukish/Rockin' in Rhythm"" from "Piano in the Background" by Duke Ellington. It's happy. It's peppy. It's jazzy. And so many of those cover letters are so drearily serious.
I don't mean your cover letter should be silly, that you should be an ass. But people need to lighten up on those things. Imagine having to read all those earnest cover letters. How much more enjoyable to read a letter from someone who wants the job, is enthusiastic and creative, and not ponderously keen to tell their life story - which (as far as work goes) should be in the resume.
I guess all I'm saying is think about the person reading them. What would you want to read? Who would grab your interest? (And less is more - almost always.) Also ... template cover letters should be shunned. You want a specific job? Write for the specific job. Blah blah blah ...
What do I know? I haven't done one of these for a while, so I really don't know. But I think that's what I would want to see. And that Duke Ellington disc would put me in the mood to write a letter like that. (I think.)
