Mark My Words

Tristan Prettyman will be a big star. She has the voice, the talent and the looks to make it. She's only 23! She put on a great show last night at Slims. So good in fact that I couldn't stand to stick around for the mediocrity of Ben Taylor. (Hello!? Sound guy? Are you deaf? What's with the reverberating bass? My ears hurt.)

She ended her set with my favorite song. I love when that happens. . .

Dude! (the good exclamatory type) That song is so going on my wedding playlist when I get around to having expendable cash. And no, no wedding in any sort of works for me... just atypical girly behavior where I'm thinking ahead, cuz my friends who've gotten married never had any time to plan and some of the song selections at their receptions sucked.

thanks so much for sharing that. I may need to treat myself to her cd.

What makes her good? I know you mentioned voice, talent etc., and I don't mean this as if I'm questioning if she's good. But I find when there is someone I like, there's often something very specific. For example, I love Elvis Costello. Although I think he's not the greatest singer, I love his song construction, arrangements and lyrics. On the other hand, some people I like simply for their voice. Others, it's their choice of material (if they don't write their own).

Anyway ... it sort of sounds as if you like her partly for her performing abilities (singing etc.), but maybe also because of the material.

bill, i like her for many reasons. her lyrics resonate with me, her voice is clear and folky and her style is unique. i am a sucker for an acoustic guitar and some wistful lyrics...just look at my cd collection. ;)

Oh, it's SO nice when that happens! A good contrast to the times when you go to a concert and they don't play the song you most want to hear.

On another note, I noticed that you are a What Not to Wear watcher (me too - such a fan) -- do you ever wonder what they'd want you to wear?
