Sing It, Piano Man

Some things are unexplainable. Like, why I am currently obsessed with listening to She's Got a Way by Billy Joel? I watched Happy Endings last night. (Good flick) Maggie Gyllenhaal sings a karaoke version of Honesty and that got me in the mood for some sappy old Billy Joel. Then I heard this song and so far, have listened to it on repeat about 15 times. Does that qualify me for OCD?

I think it's romantic longing. What person wouldn't want a someone to feel this way about them? I know that, personally, I am banking on finding a fella who wouldn't hesitate to say these sentiments to me.

She's got a way about her
I don't know what it is
But I know that I can't live without her

She's got a way of pleasin'
I don't know what it is
But there doesn't have to be a reason
Anyway

She's got a smile that heals me
I don't know why it is
But I have to laugh when she reveals me

She's got a way of talkin'
I don't know what it is
But it lifts me up when we are walkin'
Anywhere

She comes to me when I'm feelin' down
Inspires me without a sound
She touches me and I get turned around

She's got a way of showin'
How I make her feel
And I find the strength to keep on goin'

She's got a light around her
And everywhere she goes
A million dreams of love surround her
Everywhere

She comes to me when I'm feelin' down
Inspires me without a sound
She touches me and I get turned around

She's got a smile that heals me
I don't know why it is
But I have to laugh when she reveals me

She's got a way about her
I don't know what it is
But I know that I can't live without her
Anyway

I would simply swooon if that were sung to me. (By the right guy, of course.) As usual, you're right on it, Sizzle. I love "Honesty" too -- thanks for the reminder. I foresee a little Billy Joel fest today!

I recently had a similar OCD moment involving "Could It Be Magic" by Barry Manilow. I listened to it on repeat for 2 days straight.

I don't even like Barry Manilow, but that song gives me goosebumps.

The best songs are the ones that merit listening to over and over again. I can't say "She's Got A Way" makes my list, but it is a beautiful song. I prefer "Just The Way You Are," even though it's probably overused.

Like jeopardygirl, I prefer "Just the Way You Are". I get in moods where I want to hear it over and over again. And I just wish some guy would say those words to me.

Certain songs just click - right song, right time, right person. But if we're talking Billy Joel ... "You can get what you want or you can just get old." I've got to go with Vienna:

You got your passion you got your pride
But don't you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on but don't imagine they'll all come true
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?

If that is OCD, then I'm right next to you on that one. I once had Tori Amos's 'Cool On Your Island' in my car for an entire week after her concert.

My OCD is usually reserved for depressing songs - which is probably indicative of a problem. Right now I have Tori Amos's version of Total Eclipse of the Heart on repeat on my iPod. "Once upon a time I was falling in love, now I'm only falling apart..." That's not healthy, is it?

At least your OCD is for something sweet!

My song like that is "Maybe I'm Amazed." I love that song and dream of the day that someone feels that way about me.

Wow. I am a sap.

I love Billy Joel, and I love "Honesty". It's such a great song. I also love "Just The Way You Are". I soooo want some great guy to sing one of those songs to me. :)

I saw Billy Joel in concert with Elton John not too long ago. I was swoonging!

My biggest OCD song from Billy Joel is "Big Man On Mulberry Street." It's one of his lesser known songs. I fell in love with it when they used it in an episode of "Moonlighting." It has a Big Band sound to it, and it always reminds me of my parents who grew up in that era.

You say that you like "old" Billy Joel? Is there some "new" Billy Joel that I don't know about?

Anything pre-Brinkley is awesome. My favorite is Miami 2017. The version on the 9/11 Tribute Concert CD is outstanding.

i guess there isn't really "old" billy joel. it just feels "old" to me because it reminds me of my younger days.

I completely adore Billy, old and new -- all of his songs remind me of being somewhere between elementary school (when "For the Longest Time" was my obsession) to high school, when any sappy song he sang made me feel...very high school girly.

Actually, there IS new Billy Joel! He somewhat recently decided to write classical music. I was really excited and ran out to get the CD, only to find that he *wrote* it, but didn't *play* it. WTF?! The Piano Man has someone else play the piano for him? Doesn't make much sense to me... And while I enjoy the album, it's not as moving as I hoped it'd be.

And now that you are true to yourself, and being the authentic you, I think that's going to happen.

There's nothing Dorky about Billy Joel. Scenes from an Italian Restaurant is one of my all time favorite songs...
