Celebrate Good Times

Yesterday was Mikey's birthday. For those of you who didn't receive the Sizzle's Friendship Diagram, he's near the top under the designation "current housemate/former boyfriend." Yes, my housemate and I, many years ago, were a couple. Some people think that is odd. If you met us, you'd think it makes perfect sense. He's a stellar fella and a very good friend- charming, funny, thoughtful and ridiculously adoring to our dog.

To celebrate, a bunch of us went out for sushi. We love sushi. While we awaited our food, I attempted to explain why I hold my chopsticks differently than everyone else. I hold my pen weird too. What can I say? I like to be unique. Besides, I can't get the damn roll to my mouth if I hold them any other way.

It was around that time that someone said something about "the pull out method." Of course, they weren't talking about that pull out method in particular but because I was within ear shot, I took it and ran with it. I said to anyone in particular, "The pull out method is very unreliable." And JB, sitting to my left responded, "I use it all the time."

It was then that I snapped that picture( --->) because, well, it was a very JB kind of moment. Plus, he'd already had a few cocktails so he was being highly entertaining. Between him and Bruce, the table full of young teenagers in Winter Formal wear were getting quite the look over and I was having a very good time.

After stuffing ourselves with massive amounts of sushi, we headed back to the house for some drinks and dessert. The birthday boy has a particular fondness for peanut butter and banana concoctions. As housemate, friend and baker extraordinaire, I whipped up a Peanut Butter and Banana Cream Pie just for him. And because I wasn't sure anyone else would actually want to eat it, I made some brownies. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad and most everyone ate some. Even Angelou liked it.

It was around that time that somebody started talking about The Chronicles of Narnia which led to someone looking up the SNL video "Chronic of Narnia" to show those who had not yet enjoyed the pure hilarity of it. Then Supple had to show me her wicked moves and threw this pose. She is so dope. Word!

I am definitely realizing that I am IN my 30's. Gone are the wild, late night parties. Gone are my days of debauchery, flashing and going to bed when the sun is rising. When it's nearing 1:00 am, I can only think of going to bed. Alone. To sleep. Sweet Jesus, what is wrong with me!? I could at least have a dream lover. Sheesh. But, really, a good evening for me is full of friends, laughter, and maybe, if I'm lucky, a robot dance off contest or some Vanna White prankster moments. Ah, it's the little things that amuse me.
