A is for Airport

Harry Burns: You take someone to the airport, its clearly the beginning of the relationship. That's why I have never taken anyone to the airport at the beginning of a relationship.

I took a boy to the airport this morning. Don't get all up in arms and start asking me 20 questions. I do not think it means what you think it means. Or what Harry Burns thought it meant. I think what it means is that I need to stop being so helpful and accommodating and nice. Or that I am dating someone. No. That isn't it. At least I don't think so? We hang out. We're friends. It's cool.

Do I sound easy and breezy? Super. My plan is totally working.

I've been up since 4am. This morning's trip was the second of three trips to the airport I will make this week. I've got that route down. Of course, I am still getting lost. Like yesterday, we had a meeting at Qwest Field where the Seahawks place, and even with directions in hand I got lost. I don't know what it is about this town but without fail, I will be late. And you know how I hate to be late! Turns out, I HAD been on the right street but made a too-hasty u-turn and ended up driving 10 minutes past where I needed to be. By the time I walked into the conference room, it was 9:20 and everyone got to watch as I pulled the door rather than pushed it. Don't you hate when that happens? I apologized and excused my tardiness blaming the fact that I have lived here less than 2 months. Everyone can related because apparently everyone in this town is a transplant.

I've barely spent any time with my Mom on her visit which is just not ok. Hopefully, I can make up for lost time tonight and tomorrow as long as I get in a cat nap or two. I have this ridiculous quirk- once I wake up, I can very rarely get back to sleep. That means that when I wake up at 4am to drive a friend to the airport, I'm up. Come 2pm I will be nodding off at my desk. Please send perky emails to enliven my afternoon.

It can mean whatever you want it to mean, just as long as the "friend" is nice to you. And he damn well better be.

And by the way, I don't think my comment went through yesterday but your nephew is SO adorable!

Do you pick people up from the airport too?? Because I'm getting tired of having to rent a car when flying over to Seattle!

Wow, I'd be catching more Z's after getting up that early. You're like a superhero or something. I'm sure you'll have some good quality time with your mom in the next couple of days. Just get a nice powernap in first.

Yeah, you'll definitely need a nap later. You need to take care of yourself and you also need some quality family time with mom and finn!

What????? You are dating someone????? He must be something if you are even wondering out loud if you are more than friends. Sounds like Seattle isn't treating you so poorly, even if it likes to keep you on it's toes with it's zany street grids. Rule of thumb: Always know where you are in relation to the Space Needle. It will help... that and the water is always to your west... xo

I love that: "My plan is working." He'll be in love with you before he even knows it.

Driving here is far more complicated than I think most people realize. I so wish we had a train system.
