It's Official
I live in Seattle, Washington.
The reality of this fact hits me in small increments. Receiving mail. Shopping spree at IKEA. Stopping by Doke and Double B's house on my way home. Home. I live here. In this one bedroom, lopsided apartment. As I hang pictures and fill up my cupboard, home becomes more than a word. It's a feeling emerging.
The trek here was good, thanks to the company of Dumpling and Supple and the cats. I was monumentally exhausted and managed to take a couple of naps as Dumpling drove the Uhaul. Ashland, Oregon was hot and quaint. We found a delicious little Italian bistro and celebrated with a decadent bottle of vino (thanks Supple). The cats managed to not freak out too much. All the horror stories I had heard about traveling with cats was unfounded in my case. A few meows and some hyper-activity that involved pulling the sheet that covered the cage in through the slots. Minor. Dottie and Dash are adjusting very well to their new home. I swear, Dottie is a new cat. She's less skittish and much more affectionate. Maybe not having a 55 lb dog around trying to herd her helps?
We arrived a few minutes past our intended time (4:30pm, 7/1/06) and managed to unload the truck in record time. Ok, my friends unloaded most of it while I was busy signing paperwork with my landlord. Thanks pals! It was uncharacteristically hot and we all decided beers and burgers were required after so much hard work. Dumpling and I managed to make some headway unpacking and made an extensive list of all the things I would need to purchase to make this apartment livable. Thank God for IKEA and Target. I am unemployed- I have to keep reminding myself of that fact.
There is more to say but for now, I wanted to just relish in my ability to sit here in my new home and write my first blog before I head out to a bbq at my sister's house and maybe see some fireworks. I can't thank Dumpling and Supple enough for driving up here with me. It meant SO much to have them along. I miss them already. And Dumpling? Thanks for putting up with my stressed out neuroticness and for explaining that a rug is that thing that lies on the floor. ;)

Can such things be? The first comment at your new digs?
Must be something wrong with me. Despite all the work and angst, to me this all sounds like fun.
WHeeeee!!! I'm glad you made it ok! I want to see pictures soon of the new place!! Now that you are over THAT obstacle...fun and adventure begins!
Yay! So glad to hear it!
I wanted to make sure this was in your blog somewhere, so even though it was an e-mail back, let me repeat here:
I feel better. And I hope when you're old and grey you look back on this as being one of the BEST things you've ever done and that no one can shut you up when Seattle enters the conversation!
So you've posted your first blog entry from your new place. And it's already starting to feel like home.
I think those definitely coincide.
Yippee! You made it! You are alive! You even sound... okay!
Note on cats - everyone said when we moved our 4 (now 5) that it was going to be trouble. Heck, they adjusted faster than WE did!!
It's going to be okay...
Now I have this image of the intro to the Mary Tyler Moore show of her walking the streets, throwing her hat in the air... put Sizzle in place of MTM and replace Minneapolis with Seattle and replace snow with sun... and it's almost the same!!
:)
You did it! I can't wait for the moment when you look around and love that it is your home.
YAY!!! :)
Seattle. Hey, is it raining?
The best teriyaki is over in Greenlake. You are making me crave it now!
This past weekend was the big move weekend for both of us! It looks like you made it ok... enjoy Seattle! Egan is there (another blog site) and my aunt and uncle live there!
