Love You Two Times

You all have heard about my friend Jenny Two Times- how I've got to call her that because so often I am required to repeat myself. She's super smart and a total space cadet. There are certain things you can always count on with Jenny Two Times- that you will need to repeat yourself, that she will not be able to find her keys, that I will have to turn the volume down on my cell when she calls, that she will incessantly twirl her curly hair, that she will have to look at the shoe selection when we are shopping, that she will say, "I know that guy" and by that she will mean, "I stood in line behind him at Trader Joe's last week."

There are many things I will miss about not living in the same town as Jen Jen. I know our friendship doesn't end when I drive away. We've lost and found each other repeatedly since we were 16. Our bond runs deep and distance will not change that. But last night I was reminded of the beginning of our friendship as we drove Highway 17 on a warm night. With her, the memory will always follow- us two driving with the windows down, the music cranked, our voices belting out a song, and the hope of endless possibility.

"When it's dark baby,
there's a light I'll shine,
and if you're lost, I'm right behind,
cause we walk the same line.

And if these troubles
should vanish like rain at midday,
well I've no doubt there'll be more.

And we can't run and we can't cheat,
cause babe when we meet
what we're afraid of,
we find out what we're made of.

So if you lose your faith babe,
you can have mine,
and if you're lost, I'm right behind,
cause we walk the same line."

I didn't expect that to make me so emotional so early on. And I haven't even had my coffee yet.

these memories i hold deep.

the laughter til our bellies burt, the tears over love lost and life's frustrations, the AI nights, BR ice cream shakes, hangin' at the old Sizzle house with friends, concerts in overalls, funky finds at thrift stores, meals at The Saturn Cafe, road trips, so much more...

to my soul sister in music:

in the deepest place of my being and yours, we meet in music, in lyrics, in sound...nothing else can touch that.

i love you mad, miss s.
