Insult, Injury and Intoxication

I was at the front desk yesterday trying to be helpful. With all the staff turnover here it is confusing for the volunteers who answer the phones to know who is at what extension. I needed to run to a different desk to see if that extension worked and as I turned to walk away, my foot caught on the phone cord and I pulled the phone down with me as I fell to the ground. I managed to land on my wrists and one calf, not my knees. Not the knees! (I have very bad knees.) I started laughing as I usually do when I dork out (re: all the time). What made this even better? That I had an audience. Mario Stewart gasped, his hand over his mouth in shock, diva style. AM tried to grab for the phone as I plummeted. And Tee Taw rushed over to help me up in true mothering fashion. I managed to make light of it but damn if in the hours that followed my body didn't ache. Wrists sore. Back tweeked. Neck cracking. It really helped to improve my overall attitude at work (re: made me bitchier). I should have hit my head. Now THAT would have helped.

It was like injury to insult because just a few hours before I had flown into a monetary-induced panic. It was pay day but when I opened up the envelope containing my pay stub there were zeros instead of the actual dollar amount owed to me. Upon investigation I discovered I. Had. Not. Been. Paid. Cue frantic music and pan to me desperately trying to stop any and all e-bills from going through my empty checking account. They cut me a manual check and I ran over to the bank. So much for the ease of direct deposit. And now I have overdraft fees which you know I am going to make my work pay. Rrrrr!

To cheer myself up, I went out to sushi with Supple. This might not mean much to any of you but my dear friend Supple (finally!) cut her hair. After years of hearing about it, she actually DID it. And might I say she looks wicked hottt. (She is single boys.) Some sake, beer and unagi later, I was feeling waaaay better. And seeing Melissa McGhee get the American Idol boot was good news. Aaannnddd, I am going to buy myself this shirt. Tomorrow is Friday. Thank the baby Jesus.

Actually, I don't know that it should be "sweet baby Jesus" you should be thanking that it's Friday. Try thanking Pope Gregory XIII as he was the one responsible for making our current calendar the de facto standard. Well, maybe Aloysius Lilius since he actually created it.

Sorry, I read way too much Wikipedia.

kevin, you are a wealth of information and for that, i adore you but don't you agree that "Thank Aloysius Lilius!" doesn't really sound as good as "Thank the baby Jesus"? ;)

D'oh! Forgot the real reason I'm commenting. I hope you're feeling better and that you get to beat the ever-loving crap out of your payroll department.

Why did I think you said "Sweet" with "Baby Jesus"? What a strange friggin' day.

Sushi always makes the world look better. I think I'll go have some right now!

Love the T-Shirt - I want one that says "Talk Nerdy to Me" - it's so H-O-T-T

sidenote: my brother's middle name is Aloysius ... hehehe

I loathe and detest when payroll screws with me! (And it's ALWAYS me!)

Hope your feeling at rights soon!

Love the shirt! Sorry about the bad day. If it makes you feel better, we are falling twins, because I totally bit it in my parking lot yesterday and now have a scraped up knee, which is the first time I've had one since I was like, oh, I don't know, 10? I wish I had gotten sushi to cheer myself up though. No such luck. :(

you better get your payroll department to automatically draft deposit your overdraft fees! that fuckers. sorry, yesterday was crappy, but sounds like you have wonderful friends to hang out and make things better, way better!

I have to say that Kevin's comment was so nerdy that it made me happy. As did the fact that someone else falls as much as I do...I sometimes wonder if I actually have any sense of balance.

I think they drink it warm... but i like mine icey cold.

You know I can't not laugh when I see people fall...I just have to! I guess its good that I wasn't there to see it.

I LOVE that t-shirt. I want one too.

And sushi and beer are the cure for everything.

Love the shirt. I hope your poor body recovers. I think you did the right thing nourishing it with beer, sake and sushi. Always helps!

Sorry about the fall. I fell in the doorway during a blizzard at our local grocery store. People flocked to help me up and all I saw were legs rushing at me. I was so humiliated. Have a good weekend.... and let's thank baby Jesus together sister!!!

While I am not pleased with what happened to you (the falling business) I am comforted in knowing I'm not alone in experiencing moments like this. While less painful, my most recent dork moment was using Sensodyne toothpaste as hair gel.

Re: American Idol ... Let that be a lesson. Lyrics are important!!!!!

Love the shirt. I can't imagine life without reading.

Hmm. I meant to add that I hope there were no serious problems caused by the fall. You are okay?

I hope you're feeling better today, though I'm sure your sleepless night did nothing to help.

B vitamins are supposed to be good for your sense of balance- at least when it's thrown off by the weather/sinuses like mine.

Let's see... I am sure you are all recovered by this time, so I will feel free to laugh at your expense. HA! There... I can, you know, because I am the queen of the fall. I fall up stairs, I fall down stairs, I trip on stairs, I trip on cracks in the sidewalk, I slip on ice, I fall in holes in the yard (even if there is only one, I will be the one to find it). Having said this, I hope you really are better - it can be painful for a very long time, expecially if you tweak your back.

Love the shirt!
Where's the pictures of the haircut?
Never had sushi... or saki. I live in Iowa. I'm not sure they know what it is.

I, too, have been on the non-receiving end of a paycheck... only mine was because the company was going under and no one told us! ...and, it was not an immediate reimbursement, we had to sit for a few days until they came up with the money!! Talk about HOT!

(Catching up...)
