Aw, geez... It's Friday. You know, FRIDAY? TGIF? The weekend... the slow, lazy, jammie-days of winter... Then I come here and you expect me to THINK? Sizzle, Sizzle, Sizzle... what were you thinking? Did you really want us to discuss this or were you just being lazy? Hmmm... Maybe I'll try this. I can have a "something talk Friday" too. Let's see...
j/k - have a good weekend. I'll think about this and get back to you later. :)
I greived for the loss of my father for years. In my mind the greif was all I had left of him, so letting it go was equal to letting him go. You do what you can when you can, and not before.
I think a lot of people forget this fact - keeping their pain fresh and real many years after the actual event without learning or even remembering why. This is not good.
It's like when you're a kid and you touch a hot stove. You don't keep your hand on the stove when you burn it - you whip your hand away. Now you remember what happens when you put your hand on a hot stove and you don't do it again. It doesn't hurt to remember - but now you know what NOT to do.
Seriously ... I don't disagree with the quote - I agree with it. But I think it's misleading. People get caught up in pain and then try to relate it to truth, which is good. But what people don't pay attention to is that pain is enjoyable. We like feeling pain because it allows us to feel sorry for ourselves.
There's s a very good line in the movie Elizabethtown which goes, "Sadness is easier because its surrender."
I relocated from sunny, beachy California to the Emerald City because I heard that every new resident got a pair of ruby shoes. (Someone lied!) (Okay, I’m gullible.) A non-profit event planner by day and an apartment manager by night, I spend my free time blogging about my neurosis (fine, neuroses because yes they are plentiful), being crafty, pretending I’m the next American Idol, and searching for a decent taco in a town that boasts of teriyaki joints on every corner.

OMG! That is an amazing quote! Amazing! Thanks for posting that!
I love quotes and this one is excellent.
*grabs the first cute male she sees to discuss..........*
:)
I find myself no diving into the depths of my memories finding this to be too true...
Thank goodness I have Mr. Dexter Gordon to guide me through.
Have a Happy Friday!

That sounds like something my dentist would say after hitting a nerve. You sure that guy's not a dentist?

Ooh, I like it! I took that as "you can grieve and move on, but that doesn't mean you've lost the lesson, or the knowledge".

Yeah, I look at it as "live, learn and move on" in a sense. Don't forget the truth, but let go of the hurt. Great quote Sizz!
I think it depends on the context and what constitutes 'pain.' Sometimes the absence of pain just ushers in denial.
Is this in reference to S&M?
it's within the midst of pain that i remember the truth...thus i feel sometimes that i just have to live in pain

Sometimes pain has a life all its own and we do not have the tools to kill it.
I really need to read his book.

Maybe that's the truth we need to know.
I don't think you need pain to learn the truth always.
I do think it can be painful to look at things sometimes, and to realize the truth.
The unexamined life is not worth living. (Plato attributing to Socrates)
I quoted that a long time before I actually did it. Just to avoid the pain.
