Quiet!

The whole weekend I felt like people were not using their "inside voices" when we were inside. Hell, they weren't using their outside voices when we were outside either. It was like someone turned the volume up in my head, like I was standing too close to the speakers at a rock concert, like everyone had plugged up ears but me.

When Mikey, Meagan, Jenny Two Times and I were getting some grub at the Santa Cruz Diner this weekend, I had to point out the high volume of J2x voice. As the waiter patiently took our order, Jenny Two Times practically yelled out her omelette request. I couldn't help but joke: Hey, Jen, I don't think the people at the door could hear you. Keep in mind we were all the way at the other end of the restaurant and lucky old me was sitting right next to her. I love you Jenny Two Times but shhhhh.

And then I went to lunch with my Aunt and her friend and my dear Mom. Whenever anyone gets around my Aunt, their voice is forced louder. She is a loud talker. It comes from being the youngest girl in a family of six I think. You gotta speak up to get some attention in a family that large. Over our Crab Louie salads and Clam Chowder, I could swear that the entire restaurant knew each and everything we spoke of thanks to my Aunt and her even louder friend. Maybe they drank too much champagne back at the house? I don't know the reason, or if there is one at all. I did find myself speaking softly as a way of role modeling for them to lower their voices but of course, they were too busy talking loudly and over one another to hear me.

So today, I am taking a quiet day.

I agree with you about being worn out from loud voices. I felt we couldn't talk at all because we wouldn't be hear anyway and I did notice your looks of 'Oh My God!' m
