Have Your Cake & Eat It

Living near my little sister has many perks, like getting to make her grandma cake because it is her birthday. Very few people love grandma cake like we do. And then we can have a conversation that goes something like this:

"I'm making grandma cake for your birthday on Friday." (said with enthusiasm.)

"Yay! I love grandma cake!" (said like the cake-loving fiend that she is.)

"If the others don't like it so much, you know what that means?" (said slyly.)

"That we get to eat it all?!" (said with glee and a hungry look in her eye.)

"That's right sister." (said with the conviction of a fellow-loving-cake-fiend.)

Yeah, so, we love us some grandma cake. And no, you can't have a piece. It's like our Precious.

I've said it time and time again but I will say it again (and again). I adore my sister. I am one of those lucky people who got a sibling and a best friend. Living blocks away from her now after not living in the same town for 7+ years is such a gift. We can invite each other over for dinner. We can walk around the Farmer's Market and get asked if we are twins. We can shop and get pedicures and take walks. No one laughs the way she does. No one gets me the way she does. There is something monumental about having a person in your life who "gets you" without explanation, who knows your history, your hopes, your fears and possibility. Time with my sister is so very precious to me. She's an extraordinary person and there is no one on this earth who touches my heart the way she does. No one.

I cannot imagine my life without my sister. She's often my better half, frequently the one woman audience to my neurotic spazzing, occasionally my kick in the pants and always, always my safe harbor.

Hey Dokey, Happy Birthday. I am so glad you were born!

Sisters really are a gift. Having that connection of someone that knows everything in your head without you having to say a word. Yes. Sisters are awesome.

Happy Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday Sizzle's Sister! You're right Sizz, I don't know where I would be without my sisters. There is absolutely no relationship like it!

I wouldn't say that my sister is my best friend, but we are close, and you're dead right about them "getting" you better than anyone else--even (gulp!) spouses.

Happy Birthday Dokey! Hope you have a great one!

Happy birthday, li'l sis! And congrats, Sizz - I have not see or even seen used, the word 'glee' in...forever. I think last time I saw it was in a fairy tale.

You are very lucky to be so close with your sister. I've always felt much closer to my best friend than to either of my sisters, and that's a sad thing. I just don't have much in common with either of them, except being related.

Happy Belated Birthday, Dokey!

My sister and I are actually the same age for a week:) We are pretty close too, and I often wonder what it would be like to live in the same city. Happy Birthday to your sis!

Aww... now I wish I had a sister. I only have a stinky brother.

Seriously, that was so sweet it almost made me cry, and I probably have a cavity now.
